Asbestos Surveys

What you need to know:

Asbestos was extensively used as a building material in the UK from the 1950s through to the mid-1980s. Any building completed before 2000 can contain asbestos. Asbestos materials in good condition are safe unless asbestos fibres become airborne, which happens when materials are damaged. There are several diseases associated with asbestos exposure. Some are fatal. All of them are preventable. The only sure way to protect against related illness is to prevent all exposure to asbestos dust.

What you need to do:

Every commercial building in the UK must have an Asbestos Management Survey report and a management plan for any asbestos that is present.

Any asbestos in the building requires management and the report needs updating annually as a minimum.

Before any significant building works are undertaken you must have an Asbestos Refurbishment & Demolition Survey report.

What could happen if you don't?

Failure to manage the asbestos in your building correctly could expose the occupants to asbestos fibres and result in prosecution by the HSE.
